Back on the Road Again - Headed West

Hi Everyone –

I thought I would take some time to update my blog – while I have a little. The band and I are getting ready to head out to Las Vegas – Viva Las Vegas! (I guess living near the border is starting to rub off on me – LOL)

I am sorry to take so long between updates – lack of time and computer problems with my laptop have delayed me. I have wanted to thank all of you who came out to see us during February and March - especially with some of the weather we were having!

From B&O Station in Youngstown, OH, February 9th, through gigs at Rosedale American Legion Hall in Baltimore, MD and The Music Shop in Norwich, NY, to KCLINGER´S in Hanover, PA on Valentine´s Day everything went GREAT! Getting from Hanover to Northampton, MA was a different story…

We got stuck in the big blizzard that shut down the freeway in PA. After we got on the road and were too far to turn back, the road just completely shut down – you may remember it from the news. We were there for almost 24 hours. Not moving and freezing cold!

Sadly, we missed the gig at Iron Horse, and did not get to see our fans there. We missed you all! I hope we will have a rescheduled date some time soon for Iron Horse. We finally got through the blizzard and made it to Woonsocket, RI to Chan´s where we received a very warm welcome from John Chan and the great Blues fans there.

The weather improved as we traveled from Woonsocket to Jewish Mother´s Virginia Beach, through Dante´s in Marlborough, MA; Time Out Pub in Rockland, ME; The Turning Point in Piermont, NY and Chick Hall´s Surf Club in Bladensburg, MD.

After the gig at Jewish Mothers - we decided to stay an extra day in Virginia Beach. It was so nice there – and the people at Jewish Mothers were great to us. It was nice there – but still cold! My road manager and drummer decided they were polar bears and went for a dip in the ocean. We laughed so hard at my drummer – We thought that Texas boy was going to turn to an ice cube he was so cold. My road manager, Greg, is from Minnesota, so he was ok.

When we left Virginia Beach for Illinois, another snow storm was on the way. We dreaded another blizzard! Thinking of performing at the Expo Gardens in Peoria and at Buddy Guy´s Legends in Chicago I remembered something Carlos Mencia said about the fans there. He said that of audiences in all different areas - Chicago fans are the best – they are have four seasons and are used to change – so they don´t freak out when the weather is bad - they come out to a show anyway.

I know in Texas and California – if it is cold, rainy, nasty weather – we have half the crowd or less. Sure enough, despite the weather in Peoria and Chicago – we still had a great turnout!

From Chicago we were back in Texas where we performed at Saxon Pub in Austin during the first week (film) of SXSW, then returned home to play at the Big Easy in Houston on March 10th.

March 16th, I traveled to San Antonio to help out at a fundraiser for Blues Legend Spot Barnett. We were there to help Spot raise funds to rebuild his home after a fire. It felt good to be back in San Antonio. I had not performed there in a long time.

The club where the fundraiser was held was the same place I played the last time I had a gig In San Antonio – Billy Blues. The club is under new ownership now and is called Sam´s Burger Joint.

I am in Austin now – rehearsing with my band and packing up to head west. Our fist stop – Santa Fe Station and Boulder Station Casino in Las Vegas! We will be on the west coast working our way up to Vancouver, BC, Canada.

From Canada we´ll head over to Florida and up the East Coast – then on over to Memphis – for the Blues Music Awards! And… before I forget… "Thanks to all of you who voted for me and my new CD "We The People". I am very proud of this CD, and all of the work that went in to it!

That´s it for now – I´ll see you on the road!

Guitar Shorty Flips Over India!

HI There Guitar Shorty Fans-

I just heard from Shorty via e-mail and he asked me to post an update for you. He is currently on his way back to the USA and reports having a great time in India.

After the bands arrival in India, and some time to settle in, their hosts threw a party welcoming Buddy Guy, Walter Trout, Bernard Allison and Shorty. (Photos were taken, so I will try to get copies to post on this site). They all had a good time at the party and enjoyed having time to catch up with eachother.

Shorty said each artist's performance during the show on Saturday was fantastic, very high-energy! Shorty felt so good on stage, and was having such a good time, he suprised Walter Trout and the audience by doing one of his famous back flips while playing the guitar.

I'll bet Walter and and the audience were in shock! Wow Shorty! - 65 years old and still flipping on stage. Amazing!

Shorty was looking forward to an opportunity on Sunday for He, Walter Trout , Buddy Guy and Bernard Allison to have a jam session together on stage.

Shorty will be back in LA later today, and will hit the road day after tomorrow for Youngstown, Ohio. He and his band will play at B & O Station, this Friday, February 9th.

Who knows what suprises Shorty will have in store for the audience at B&O Station! You know when Shorty is on stage, the show will be a great one period.

Are you ready for Great Music and a fun time East Coast? - Shorty's on his way...

India Bound

Hi Everyone -

I am so glad to have a new way to communicate with you all. I am just figuring all of this blog stuff out, so please bear with me.

I just got back on the road after some time off over the Holidays. We had a great time at the Big Easy in Houston. Keep an eye on the tour dates Houston fans... we'll be back soon! Tom, owner of the Big Easy, will try to have us back there again in the Spring.

Friday night we were in Austin at Ruta Maya, where we received a very warm reception on such a cold and rainy night. We look forward to coming back to Austin again soon too. Steve at the Continental Club and Wendy at Ruta Maya have both been great to work with.

This week I will return to LA where I will meet up with Walter Trout for a trip to India. As soon as I return from India - I will meet up with my band and head for the East Coast. I look forward to seeing you all out at the shows! "We The People" my latest release on Alligator is one of my best to date, with more Rockin' Blues than anything else I have recorded.

So far you all seem to like it too! The album and I are nominated for three Blues Music Awards. To check out other nominees and to VOTE FOR ME!!! visit the Blues Foundation website at www.blues.org.

Walter Trout was kind enough to invite me to be a guest musician on his latest release, "Full Circle". I will accompany him to India to promote "Full Circle" at the Johnnie Walker One Tree Music Festival 2007 to be held Feb 3, at MMRDA Grounds Bandra (E) Mumbai, India, where we are billed as:
WALTER TROUT & THE RADICALS WITH SPECIAL GUESTS "GUITAR SHORTY" & "BERNARD ALLISON"
For more information, on the festival in India, visit: www.oranjuice.net.

That's it for now!

Love you forever,
Guitar Shorty
